CITY OF ATLANTA
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PUBLIC NOTICE
ON-STREET PARKING RESTRICTIONS
AT CORNER CLEARANCES
OAKDALE ROAD, NE, MCLENDON AVENUE, NE
June 20, 2012
The Department of Public Works has been working over the past few weeks completing various upgrades at the intersection of Oakdale Road and McLendon Avenue. There have been reports of accidents at the intersection and reports of public concern over vehicular and pedestrian safety at this location. We have improved the visibility of the traffic signal including increasing the size of the signal and pedestrian heads and restriping the intersection. The Parks Department-Forestry has trimmed some tree limbs near the signal heads to improve visibility as well. Installation of ADA ramps and associated striping is planned within the coming weeks.
In an effort to further improve the traffic conditions to support public safety Public Works is proposing parking restriction along the east of Oakdale Road between Mclendon Avenue and Hooper Street. The width of this section of Oakdale Road ranges between 25.5 and 28 feet. Narrowness of the roadway makes it difficult for emergency access and two-way traffic movement when vehicles are parked on both sides of the street.
Consistent with the City of Atlanta Code of Ordinances Section 150-92, the Department of Public Works, Office of Transportation recommends parking restriction along the east of Oakdale Road between Mclendon Avenue and Hooper Street. Existing parking and parking restrictions on the remaining sections of the street will not be impacted. On-street parking will be available on one side of the street except near intersections where corner clearance is in place or needed
Questions and/or comments related to on-street parking restriction along the east of Oakdale Road between Mclendon Avenue and Hooper Street may be submitted in writing by August 1, 2012 by email to publicworks@atlantaga.gov or
