New Resident Information

Here is a new resident kit booklet for the City of Atlanta. This includes a MARTA map (rapid transit).

Recycling and Trash pickup: Candler Park trash pick-up is Monday, with recycling pick-up every other Monday. The City of Atlanta provides more information about recyling here.

Utilities:

  • Electric service -- Georgia Power 150 E. Ponce de Leon, Decatur GA 30030 1-888-660-5890 Fee: $30 Deposit: Depends, they will run a credit check. Note: Georgia Power will automatically cut off service in previous name when they establish service in your name, if hasn't already been cut off.
     
  • Water service -- City of Atlanta, Dept of Watershed Management 55 Trinity Avenue, Suite 1650, Atlanta GA 30303-0330 404-658-6500, watershedhelp@atlwater.com Fee: $95 What you need to do: You have to go in person, can’t be done by mail. Bring a copy of lease agreement and ID. Go to lobby and apply. Note: in one case, a new tenant was told they also needed an notarized letter from the landlord to switch from landlord to tenant's name. This addition was not mentioned over the phone when asked what to bring.
     
  • Gas service One provider is Georgia Natural Gas or GNG 1-877-850-6200 (outside Atlanta) 770-850-6200 (inside Atlanta) Email: www.onlygng.com Fee: $60 Deposit: Depends on credit check. If necessary, can be up to $150. GNG is not the only service provider; there are a number of other providers to choose from. See this website by the Georgia Public Service Commission. When choosing a gas provider, be sure to make an informed choice about a fixed or variable rate.
